Gating is the service used by Sliq encoders to replace the video and audio stream with as slide and audio (or silence). The Gating is used when a customer wants to make sure there is nothing being recorded on the encoder or streamed live when there are no meetings taking place.

The feature is also integral to the use of the "pause" feature as it is the only way the system has to replace the signal when the meeting is paused. Pause will suspend live video but the VOD will be assembled from the ringbuffer and will still contain the "paused" sections.

Gating does however impact the "always recording" encoding as the input signal is ignored and thus not recorded.

This means the ability to fix a meeting that was started late or ended early are lost as they will contain the slide and silenced audio instead of the signal that was input into the machine.

An example of the ringbuffer with Gating is seen below, the image with the crest is the only thing recorded until a meeting starts. As the meeting goes on the input signal is recorded, then as the meeting ends the crest replaces the input signal again.

Gating Slides/Sounds

The customer can provide a custom slide and audio track, Sliq does provide a default audio track and black screen.
